GPO Smart Card Tracking: See Where Pakistan Post Has Your Vehicle Card
Punjab vehicle smart cards do not reach you by courier van from the Excise office. Instead, they travel through the national post, from the General Post Office (GPO) in Lahore to your local post office. GPO smart card tracking reads every scan Pakistan Post records on the way, so you know whether your card is still in Lahore, already in your district or out with the postman.
Search with the EXC tracking ID or your registration number. After that, use this guide to read postal jargon, judge whether a wait is normal and recover a card that comes back.
What GPO Smart Card Tracking Actually Follows
Home delivery by post began in late 2021, when the Excise department signed Pakistan Post to bring both smart cards and number plates to owners. Excise prints the cards in Lahore and hands them to the post. From that moment, each card behaves like registered mail.
That handover explains a common surprise. Until Pakistan Post books the card, there is nothing to track here, so check your vehicle application tracking result first.
| Stop | What happens there | How it appears in tracking |
|---|---|---|
| Lahore GPO | The card is booked and receives an EXC tracking ID | Booked at Lahore GPO |
| Lahore district mail office | Mail is sorted into bags by destination | Dispatch from booking office to district mail office |
| Your district mail office (DMO) | The bag opens and items go to local post offices | Dispatch from district mail office to district mail office |
| Your delivery office | Your local post office assigns it to a postman | Dispatch from DMO to delivery office |
| Your doorstep | The postman hands it over | Delivered to addressee |
If you live in Lahore itself, the chain is shorter, because the card never leaves the city's mail network.
Two Ways to Start GPO Smart Card Tracking
Both searches read the same Pakistan Post records. The difference lies in how precise the first result is.
| Search with | Where you get it | What you see first |
|---|---|---|
| EXC tracking ID | An SMS or slip that mentions your card's postal ID | The full journey of that one card |
| Registration number | Your registration papers, for example SMP 2468 | A list of every article booked for that number |
Not to Be Confused With the Pak ID Tracking ID
NADRA's Pak ID app also hands out a "Tracking ID" and a PIN during a vehicle transfer. That pair only unlocks the buyer's biometric step, so it will never work here. Our vehicle application tracking guide explains which number belongs to which stage.
Track Your Smart Card in Four Moves
Reading Your GPO Smart Card Tracking Timeline
Every result has a summary panel and a timeline. The sample below, built from made-up details, shows a card that went from Lahore to Faisalabad in four days.
| Badge | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Booked | Pakistan Post has the card but has not dispatched it yet | Nothing yet; check back tomorrow |
| In transit | The card is moving between mail offices | Watch for it to reach your delivery office |
| Delivered | The postman recorded a handover at your address | Missing? Ask your household first |
| Needs attention | A return, refusal or failed attempt appears | Follow the recovery steps below |
Three Small Details Worth Noticing
- BagID names the mail bag your card travelled in. Quote it if you ever complain to Pakistan Post.
- The Latest tag marks the most recent scan, which is the only one that tells you where the card is now.
- The days counter runs from booking, so you can compare it with the normal waits below.
Is My Card Late? Normal Waits Versus Red Flags
Patience pays at some stages and costs you at others. These limits come from journeys we have followed, so treat them as a practical rule of thumb rather than an official promise.
| Where the card is | Normal wait | Red flag after | Your action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Booked at Lahore GPO | Same day | Two days without a dispatch | Call the Pakistan Post helpline |
| Between Lahore and your DMO | One to three days | Five days | Call with your EXC tracking ID |
| At your delivery office | One to five days | A week | Visit that post office with your CNIC |
| Marked delivered, not received | None | Immediately | Ask at home, then complain in writing |
Help Your Card Arrive the First Time
Most failed deliveries trace back to an address the postman cannot find. A few checks at the application stage prevent that.
- Write the full address: house number, street, block or mohalla, area and city
- Add a nearby landmark if your street has no clear numbering
- Keep the mobile number on your application switched on, in case the postman calls
- Make sure someone at home knows a card is coming and can receive it
- Moved recently? Update the address at Excise before the card prints
When Delivery Fails: Getting a Returned Card Back
A "return" or "undelivered" scan means the card is heading back to the sender. Fortunately, it is not lost.
- Note the EXC tracking ID and the date of the return scan.
- Call the Excise helpline on 1035 and ask which office will hold the returned card.
- Visit that Motor Registration Authority (MRA) office with your original CNIC and the application receipt.
- Check the card details before you leave the counter.
Carry the E-Registration Card While You Wait
The plastic card may take a while, but your proof of registration does not have to. Excise also issues a digital twin of the card, the e-registration card, complete with a scannable QR code.
Follow our smart card download guide to save the PDF, and keep it on your phone until the post arrives. If you are buying a vehicle in the meantime, a quick vehicle verification confirms the record behind any card.
Who to Call About Your Smart Card
Pakistan Post handles the journey, while Excise handles the card itself. Contact the right one, and keep your EXC tracking ID or registration number ready.
| Problem | Contact | How |
|---|---|---|
| Card stuck between post offices | Pakistan Post | Helpline 111-111-117, or 051-111-111-117 from a mobile |
| Card marked delivered but missing | Pakistan Post customer care | Written complaint by email (address below) |
| Card returned to sender | Excise & Taxation Punjab | Helpline 1035, then your MRA office |
| Wrong details printed on the card | Your MRA office | Visit with your original CNIC and papers |
Prefer a paper trail? Write to customercare@pakpost.gov.pk and quote three things: the tracking ID, the BagID and the date of the last scan.

GPO Smart Card Tracking FAQs
01Does GPO smart card tracking also cover number plates?
Pakistan Post delivers number plates for Punjab Excise as well. So when a plate is booked against your registration number, it can appear in the same list as your card.
02Can I use GPO smart card tracking for a card sent to a relative?
Yes. Search with their registration number or EXC tracking ID. Nobody asks for a CNIC or a login.
03What does "Dispatch from DMO to delivery office" mean?
Your card has reached your district's main sorting office and is now on its way to the local post office that serves your street.
04Why does GPO smart card tracking list several cards for one number?
Older articles share the same registration number, such as an earlier card or a duplicate. Open the one with the most recent booking date.
05How soon after "Booked" will my card arrive?
In most journeys we have followed, the card reaches the destination district within a few days. After that, timing depends mostly on how busy your local postman is.
06Can I collect the card from the post office myself?
Ask your delivery office. Many post offices hand registered items to the addressee in person on seeing the original CNIC.
07Does GPO smart card tracking work for Islamabad or Sindh cards?
08Is mtmis.com.pk part of Pakistan Post?
No. We are an independent guide. The tracking data comes live from Pakistan Post's public records, and we do not store your searches.
From Lahore GPO to Your Door, One Scan at a Time
GPO smart card tracking turns a vague wait into a clear timeline. Check the latest scan, compare it with the normal waits, and act early if a red flag appears. Until then, the e-registration card on your phone covers you, and even a returned card can still be collected.
